Part 2: Introducing Xiao Long Bao (Soup Dumplings)
小陈: 我们最有名的就是小笼包。小笼包是猪肉馅的,里面有鲜美的汤汁。
Xiǎo Chén: Wǒmen zuì yǒumíng de jiùshì xiǎolóngbāo. Xiǎolóngbāo shì zhūròu xiàn de, lǐmiàn yǒu xiānměi de tāngzhī.
Xiao Chen: Our most famous dish is soup dumplings (xiaolongbao). Xiaolongbao are filled with pork and have delicious soup inside.
Michael: 汤汁?包子里面怎么会有汤汁?
Màikè’ěr: Tāngzhī? Bāozi lǐmiàn zěnme huì yǒu tāngzhī?
Michael: Soup? How can there be soup inside a bun?
小陈: 哈哈,我们的厨师把肉冻包在皮里,蒸的时候肉冻变成汤汁,所以小笼包里面有汤。
Xiǎo Chén: Hāhā, wǒmen de chúshī bǎ ròu dòng bāo zài pí lǐ, zhēng de shíhou ròu dòng biànchéng tāngzhī, suǒyǐ xiǎolóngbāo lǐmiàn yǒu tāng.
Xiao Chen: Haha, our chefs wrap meat jelly inside the skin. When steamed, the jelly turns into soup, so there’s soup inside the xiaolongbao.
Michael: 太神奇了!那小笼包怎么吃?
Màikè’ěr: Tài shénqí le! Nà xiǎolóngbāo zěnme chī?
Michael: That’s amazing! So how do you eat xiaolongbao?

小陈: 我教您。第一,用筷子夹起小笼包,要小心,皮很薄。第二,放在勺子(sháozi)上。第三,先咬一小口,吹一吹,喝里面的汤。第四,蘸(zhàn)醋和姜丝,然后整个吃掉。
Xiǎo Chén: Wǒ jiāo nín. Dì-yī, yòng kuàizi jiā qǐ xiǎolóngbāo, yào xiǎoxīn, pí hěn báo. Dì-èr, fàng zài sháozi shàng. Dì-sān, xiān yǎo yì xiǎo kǒu, chuī yì chuī, hē lǐmiàn de tāng. Dì-sì, zhàn cù hé jiāngsī, ránhòu zhěng ge chī diào.
Xiao Chen: Let me show you. First, pick up the xiaolongbao with chopsticks – be careful, the skin is very thin. Second, place it on a spoon. Third, bite a small hole first, blow on it, and drink the soup inside. Fourth, dip it in vinegar and shredded ginger, then eat the whole thing.
Michael: 好复杂!但是听起来很好吃。我要一份小笼包。
Màikè’ěr: Hǎo fùzá! Dànshì tīng qǐlái hěn hǎochī. Wǒ yào yí fèn xiǎolóngbāo.
Michael: So complicated! But it sounds delicious. I’ll have one serving of xiaolongbao.
