How to deal with times when you feel discouraged?
When you’re working on your dream, on an important project, and things just didn’t go as planned.
Weeks that you spent lots of efforts but not seeing any returns, months that you’ve been working extra hard on but you feel like you’re staying at the same place not making any progress.
Instead of feeling like crap lying on couch binge-watching Netflix. Here are three brilliant tips I want to share with you that can help you recover fast back to the energetic and courageous you.
1. Don’t compare with others.
Say there are two salespeople working for the same company selling the same products. One has been with the company for more than 13 years while the other one is entering the second year.
The salesperson with longer working experience generated 5 times sales revenue last year than the other salesperson.
Now, how would you think if I concluded that the one with 1+year experience is bad simply based on the revenue they got?
It’s the same thing with us when we’re trying to achieve something bigger. Maybe you’re looking at someone who earns more than you, someone who accomplished more than you.
This comparison makes no sense because they’ve spent more years, made more mistakes, accumulated more experiences.
If you continue to take action, you will achieve what they’ve achieved, and perhaps in shorter time.
Tell yourself, “You’re exactly where you need to be.” Don’t compare and simply move on executing plans of whatever you’re working to achieve.
2.Deploy learning mindset.
Majority people only think they are making progress if there’s result. e.g. 5300 sales, 100K revenue.
The problem of this thought is, people give up soon because they didn’t see those results.
If we deploy a learning mindset, thinking in the way that…”Ok I’m learning the knowledge and acquiring the skill sets I need to build a business that generate the 5300 sales.” – is the crucial key towards success.
Whenever you feel discouraged about having not seen any results, ask yourself, “Am I learning? Am I improving myself to be more capable of achieving the ultimate goal?”
By doing so, you eliminate the discouragement, stress, and doubt out of your mind. That’s when you get back in the prior great condition again – courageous, energetic, pumped.
3. Share your thoughts and feelings with others.
And nope it’s nothing alike with complain. Instead, it’s being authentic of your true self. Share with others what situation you’re in, what’ve you done, and what is it that you’re trying to achieve but what is getting in your way at the moment.
When you do this, two important things occur:
1. You get to know better of your mind and the current situation you’re in because you have to organize all sorts of complex thoughts and feelings so as to articulate clearly to others.
2. You get the support you need. Someone might encountered similar situation before and can provide you helpful resources. Some others might be a strong emotional support by accompanying you going through this journey.
Walking on a journey towards your goal yourself, enduring all kinds of emotions yourself, taking on stress and criticisms yourself can be suffering.
You don’t have to suffer it alone.
Talk with your family, your partner, or your friends. It’s important. We’re social creature. Sometimes we just need the encouragement to pull ourselves out on days we can’t do it on our own.
And that won’t happen if we don’t reach out. So raise your hand and reach out to people. The result will be extremely powerful.
I hope you found these three tips valuable. They play extremely important roles that help me achieve my goals and I hope they will do the same for you too.
