Module 8 Life Elements that are Ignored
Life elements are the things that exist objectively in nature and play a vital role in life. Such as sunshine, oxygen, green vegetation, water, shelter from wind and rain, etc.
The most important stuff in the world are often free, such as sunshine and air, and human beings will die without sunshine and air.
1 Sunshine
Let me talk about sunshine, sunshine vitamins and calcium supplementation.
I have a Russian student who is learning Chinese with me. He told me that the residents of northern Russia suffer from skin diseases and osteoporosis because there is no sunshine all the year round.
What is the reason for this? Because osteoporosis is caused by calcium deficiency, calcium supplementation alone is not enough, and more sun exposure is necessary. Why?
Because sun exposure can convert cholesterol derivatives stored under the skin into endogenous vitamin D, which is processed by the liver into active vitamin D. The main function of active vitamin D is to promote the absorption of calcium in the small intestine, as shown in the following figure:
Sun exposure — Subcutaneous cholesterol derivatives — Endogenous vitamin D — Hepatic processing — Active vitamin D — Facilitates calcium absorption in the small intestine
Calcium is equivalent to the express package you buy on Amazon, and vitamin D is equivalent to the deliver-man. Without a deliver-man, how can the package be delivered to you? In the same way, without vitamin D, calcium will not be “delivered” well into the bones, and osteoporosis will occur. See the figure below:
Therefore, vitamin D is also known as the sunshine vitamin.
Everyone knows that calcium is the main component of bones and is important for bone development and hardness maintenance.
In fact, calcium has other more important responsibilities and is an indispensable part of the normal functioning of the circulatory and nervous systems. For example, the heart cannot keep beating without calcium.
There is an interesting phenomenon that many elderly people go to the hospital for physical examination. The blood calcium test results are within the normal range, and the hematology doctors say that there is no calcium deficiency. As a result, They go to the orthopedic department to take bone X-ray. The orthopedic doctor say that they have osteoporosis and severe calcium deficiency. These elderly people don’t know who to listen to, whether they are deficient in calcium, or whether they need calcium supplementation.
