Module 17 Liver — the General Manager of Health
17.4 Liver is the logistics distribution center of the human body
In addition to the function of albumin in transporting substances, the liver also produces many proteins like albumin, specifically transporting various substances that flow in the blood, including nutrients. The vast majority of substances flow in the blood in this way and are in a transported state.
This is a bit like a “public bus” or a “special car”. You have to take the right bus wherever you want to go, and these “transportation vehicles” in the blood are essentially protein, which is basically produced by the liver.
For example, the liver produces ferritin to transport iron ingested from intestine into the body. The liver produces ceruloplasmin to transport copper ingested from intestine into the body. Meanwhile, the liver produces albumin to transport zinc and calcium, and produces apolipoprotein to transport fat and cholesterol.
The meaning of blood flow is to transport oxygen and nutrients to every cell in the body, and to transport the metabolic waste produced by cells (like garbage) to the corresponding organs for excretion, such as to the kidneys and excreted in the urine.
Blood vessels are like our highway system, and these proteins are like various transportation vehicles running on the highway, such as albumin which is like buses. There are also various special cars available, such as apolipoprotein and ferritin. These transportation vehicles transport the nutrients needed by the body, toxic substances entering the body, and various waste generated by the body to the places they should go.
Judging from what mentioned above, the liver is the logistics distribution center of the human body, managing the nutrient and substance flow inside the body.
In daily life, we often refer to an important highway as a transportation artery. In fact, the ubiquitous vascular system in the body is like our highway system, and the maintenance and repair of the road surface, the maintenance and management of road conditions, and the production and maintenance of vehicles are all undertaken by the liver.
