Module 17 Liver — the General Manager of Health
17.2 “The Sacred Job Responsibilities” of the Liver
In fact, as the General Manager of Health, the liver has a “significant responsibility”, so it “fulfills its duties and works diligently”, busy managing good health every day, which is the biggest priority in life!
Actually, the liver is always busy, it is working during the daytime when you work, and it is still working when you rest at night. The liver can be said to be your most loyal guardian of health!
Below, I will explain one by one the major “sacred job responsibilities” of the liver.
The liver is the production base of many substances necessary for the human body. It is the “chemical factory” of the human body. And it is also responsible for detoxification and garbage disposal.
More importantly, the liver is also “the logistics distribution center for the nutrients and energy supply chain” in the human body.
The food we eat must be digested and absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract, and the nutrients absorbed must first flow into the liver through a blood vessel. This blood vessel is called the portal vein, as shown in the figure below. Why is it called the portal vein? As the name suggests, it is the gate through which all kinds of nutrients really enter the body, and the gatekeeper that prevents various toxic substances from entering the body.
‘Hepatic’ means of or relating to the liver, therefore the hepatic portal vein is a blood vessel that sends nutrient-rich blood from the gastrointestinal tract and spleen to the liver, but also delivers toxins to the liver that will be chemically modified in the process of detoxication.
