Module 17 Liver — the General Manager of Health
17.1 PFCL Triangle
The liver is the metabolic center of the three major substances in the human body: protein, carbohydrates, and fat.
In order to make it easy for the common people to understand the very important concept of “the liver is the metabolic center of the three major substances in the human body”, I have created a simple and understandable PFCL triangle shape, which is also the copyright of this book.
PFCL triangle
What does this triangle mean? In fact, this PFCL triangle evolves from the following figure.
Look, the liver as a whole looks roughly like a triangle, so I use a triangle to represent the liver. The color of the liver is dark red, so I painted the edges of the triangle dark red. L represents liver, and this letter is also dark red. P. F and C represent protein, fat, and carbohydrates respectively, which undergo synthesis and decomposition metabolism in the liver. So, the basic meaning of this PFCL triangle is that the liver is the metabolic center of the three major substances in the human body: protein, fat, and carbohydrates.
The following figure further illustrates the pagination of the liver and its “little brother” gallbladder:
We need to learn to use our brains to see these shapes, rather than just seeing them with the naked eyes.
One day, my wife looked at this PFCL triangle and curiously asked me. Below is our conversation.
My wife: “What does this PFCL triangle mean?”
Me: “P, F, and C respectively represent protein, fat, and carbohydrates, which are synthesized and metabolized in the liver. Therefore, the basic meaning of this PFCL triangle is that the liver is the metabolic center of the three major nutrients in the human body: protein, fat, and carbohydrates.”
My wife: “Hmm, it’s interesting. Why not other organs?”
Me: “Good question! Our body has a total of five vital organs, including the brain, lungs, heart, kidneys, and liver. Without any of these organs, people will die. The brain is used for thinking and creation, the lungs are used to transport oxygen and supply oxygen to human cells, the heart is used to pump blood to supply nutrition to human cells, the kidneys are used to maintain the body’s acid-base balance and detoxification, and the liver is the ‘chemical factory, logistics distribution center of nutrients and energy supply chain’ in the human body as well as the General Manager of human health!”
Next, I drew a graphic of human vital organs:
